Jem Smith’s biography

 Jem Carney was a British bare-knuckle fighter and heavyweight champion of England who was active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He was born in 1863 in London, England, and began his boxing career as a bare-knuckle fighter aged 18 years in 1881. 

Smith’s most notable fight came in 1887, when he faced off against Jake Kilrain, in defence of his heavyweight champion title. The fight was a closely contested battle, lasting 2 and a half hours and after 106 rounds the bout was called a draw due to darkness.

One of the rarest set from the 19th Century tobacco sports related issues. Spelled Jim on the card but seem like everyone was calling him Jem. Only 2 of those cards were graded by PSA.
